What is your job title?
Team Leader Extraordinaire. My strengths that I add to the TEAm are that I love talk and interact with customers. I was an English major in college so I also enjoy helping out with the Newsletters. I worked in Education for both children and adults for over 8 years, so I am also pumped to help with staff training, sharing my knowledge of tea, and touting the many benefits of foot soaks. I am a huge fan of cooking and relaxing, so Steep is the place where I really fit in.
Tell us about your family?
I have an enormous family of five sisters and one brother. I also have four amazing brother-in-laws and an extended amount of nieces and nephews. I believe all of them have visited me at the tea house and are very supportive of what I do.
What are some interesting facts about you some people may not know?
I have traveled all over the world and America. I was in the Peace Corps in the Philippines for several years. I have a childhood goal of knowing eight languages conversationally. I already know four aside from English.
What are some of your favorite movies?
Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, Princess Bride, Star Wars Trilogy, Lord of the Rings, Back to the Future, and Airplane. Oh and almost any cartoon!
If you could go on a dream vacation, where would you go?
Well if it was all expenses paid, then almost anywhere! My latest list is Japan, Vietnam, Nepal, Peru, Mexico, and back to the Mediterranean, especially Italy and France.
What’s your favorite band?
I am a big U2 fan. I also love most things and am quite amenable.
What’s your favorite local business besides House of Steep?
The Farmers Markets on Saturday in Falls Church and Sunday at Westover. I save my tips throughout the weeks to get eggs, flowers, mushrooms, meats, and the most beautiful produce. I love to cook.
What do you like to cook?
I just made an amazing chicken tetrazzini with chicken and mushrooms from the market, I also make a fabulous gluten-free, vegan potato leek soup. I’m happy to recipe swap anytime!
Do you have a favorite tea blend?
That’s too difficult. I like 90% of what we to offer and have a different cup every time I work depending on my mood. Today is a kinda grey, and I’m trying to avoid caffeine for a bit, so I’m going having the Hibiscus blend; lemongrass, hibiscus petals, rose-hips, and orange-peel.
What’s your favorite soak?
Love and compassion, I love rose and I really feel like royalty when I treat myself with it.
Do you drink tea outside of Steep?
I probably have four cups of different teas a day depending on my mood. This morning I had a cup of peppermint and it helped calm me down and get rid of my headache. Working here has taught me so much about how tea and soaks can truly heal a person.
